Description The second place in the world olympiad on ecology, held in the Netherlands, was taken by a schoolgirl from Mariupol, Ekaterina Malkina. At the Olympiad 200 projects from 49 countries were presented. The topic of the study of the young Ukrainian woman was the utilization of plastic waste with the help of larvae of beetles. To combat the waste of chemical products, a young Mariupol scientist, a second-year student of the technical lyceum Ekaterina Malkina, decided to appeal to the forces of nature. Together with her supervisor, she conducted a number of studies at the Faculty of Microbiology and found that certain types of insects can fight with garbage. Work on the project lasted six months, and now there is an existing container model in which beetles and their larvae successfully destroy both plastic and food waste.
